ENTANGLED
Collaborative Project
Creator and Sound Artist
Entangled is an interactive contemporary dance performance exploring the embodied interaction between humans and computers. This project was inspired by the expanding deployment of intelligent and connected devices that now influence how we physically move around the spaces.
The project is interested in the playful representation of the philosophy of technology, specific to the present-day, how computers observe our bodies through the eyes of computer vision, and how we might form intimate and emotional relationships with artificial intelligence that attempts to understand us and characterise us.
Three different disciplines, a computational artist, a dancer and a sound artist, used 'Machine learning' is as a common ground to develop a new form of creative expression embodying the ambiguous boundaries between the physical and digital.
Dancers on stages are connected to the intelligent system via sensors that track their positions, recognise the gestures, and react through sound and graphical projections. Guided by this, the dancers find a way to form a balanced relationship with the computer through improvised movement.
Entangled is collectively developed between a computational artist, sound artist, and dance artist at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
